BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi said Friday that China and the United States need to jointly safeguard the foundation of bilateral relations and protect the friendship between the Chinese and American people.
"With all due respect, I very often hear people in this country say this is something universal. But when they say universal, it's mainly the United States and a couple of European countries," said the ambassador, responding to another question about "an almost universally held criticism of China (on Xinjiang)."
The U.S. side should face reality, be rational, put China-U.S. relations in perspective and handle the relations correctly. Or it will surely face consequences if it refuses to correct its course and insists on taking more wrong steps.
Data from both Skyworks and Qualcomm were also quoted as examples. "More than 60 percent of smart phones sold in China now incorporate 5G technology. Qualcomm's shares, too, are close to an all-time high," it said.
"Our message is quite clear: We urge the United States to stop acting with arrogance and prejudice, but enter into constructive dialogue with us on an equal footing. We hope that it will work with us to ease current tensions and put the relations back onto the right track of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation," he said.
The United States should also work with China and the rest of the international community to step up international cooperation, particularly in the ongoing fight against the pandemic, and to support the multilateral system with the United Nations at the center and make it better and more effective, instead of turning against it.
QUITO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's willingness to keep the door open to dialogue with the United States to address differences and mitigate tensions between the two powers should be lauded, Ecuador's former Foreign Minister Francisco Carrion has said.
China has a huge presence in the U.S. market as well as investment, as does the United States in China, which proves there are "very deep trade ties" between the two, he noted.
As China was assuming the presidency of the UN Security Council for March, Zhang Jun, the Chinese permanent representative to the UN, briefed the press on the monthly work program.
Carrion said he agreed with top Chinese official Yang Jiechi who recently underscored the importance of maintaining respectful and productive bilateral China-U.S. ties.
-- China is ready to enter into candid, effective consultation with the U.S. side.
